About The Jones Family
My father's "Jones/Williams" side of the family is totally Welsh in origin, most immigrated to the United States in the mid 19th Century and settled in the Midwest. The first "Jones" in this tree that came to the United States was the Reverend William "Machno" Jones that emigrated from Wales to New York City, New York in 1864.
My mother's "Ellis/Baichtal" side has various European origins such as German, Dutch, English, Scottish and Irish. They immigrated to the Colonial States in the 17th and 18th Centuries and settled in the Eastern States and then relocated to the Midwest in the early 19th Century. My name is David Alan Jones; I was born at 3:40 PM, on February 25, 1956 at Mills Memorial Hospital in San Mateo, San Mateo County, California. My parents were William "Vernon" & Barbara Carol Ellis Jones who were both Iowa natives and have both passed on. I attended Fremont High School in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara County, California and graduated in 1974. I then attended De Anza College in Cupertino, Santa Clara County, California where I received my AA Degree. I worked as a mechanical design engineer at Hewlett Packard in Palo Alto, California, Apple Computer in Cupertino, California and Ampex Corporation in Redwood City, California. On July 19th of 1986 I was married to Janet Elaine Garloff and we have two children, Brittany Elaine Jones and Joseph "Pierce" Jones (now now both are adults and in their own careers). I now reside in Horse Creek, Siskiyou County, California along the Klamath River. I have written a book, "US Silent Service Dolphins & Combat Insignia, 1924-1945". This is a historic research book. Within this tree I have also have included Janet's family history in this tree and have uncovered a fairly good quantity of information. I have always been involved in my family history and this site has provided me with an excellent opportunity to record and share this information. My son, Joseph Pierce and I are both members of the "Son's of the American Revolution" through our common ancestors; Lieutenant Abraham Ellis Senior who served in the Pennsylvania Militia and Virginia Militia, Captain Thomas Johnson who served in the Bedford County and Campbell County Militia, William Cudd Morris Senior who served as a Private in the South Carolina Militia and Daniel Dillon who served in the North Carolina Militia. Daniel Davidson was an ensign in the Revolutionary War, enlisting from Washington County, Virginia in Morgan's Riflemen. He and his brother James Davidson, Jr. both served as officers at the Battle of Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Daniel Davidson,My daughter, Brittany is a member of the "Daughter's of the American Revolution" through the same ancestors. I am also a member of "The War of 1812 Society" through my ancestor Hugh William McCallister. I should have a book out fairly soon titled, "The Ellis Family". A great number of families can use this tree as a reference for their family. A Great Grandson of Lieutenant Abraham Ellis is Charles Goodwin Bickham, who served as an officer in the Philippine Insurrection. He was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor as a First Lieutenant in the 27th U.S. Infantry for action on May 2, 1902 at Bayong, near Lake Lanao, Mindanao, Philippine Islands. His citation reads "Crossed a fire-swept field, in close-range of the enemy, and brought a wounded soldier to a place of shelter." Eventually promoted to the rank of Captain.
